Expand your experience with clay and give it a new twist! Morning and afternoon sessions, four in total will address ways to incorporate innovative extrusion and handbuilding and wheel throwing techniques to create both functional and sculptural ceramics. This two day event is a round robin of demonstrations and an opportunity to ask questions.

Dye Workshop
Charlene Schurch

Explore a new and exciting way to dye warp or weft or both. This technique can also be used for knitting yarn, especially for socks. We will dye a machine knitted piece of fabric. unravel the piece and use it for weaving or knitting. Painting the machine knit fabric allows for interesting color gradations that are not easy to achieve in other ways. We will be using fingering weight sock yarn, so a scarf or shawl would be a good choice for a woven project- or socks.

Tube Bezel Setting
with Joy Raskin

Tubesetting is a tubular bezel setting ideally suited for setting faceted stones. We will use commercially made tube bezels, make our own from thick-wall and thin-wall tubing, and custon make one from bezel strip or thin sheet metal for oddly shaped stones. We will also learn flush setting with smaller sized stones to create a seamless look. Modifications on various flush settings and tube bezels will be discussed. Basic metalsmithing or jewelry skills are necessary for this workshop. The instructor will provide a limited amount of sterling tubing, bezel strip, sheet metal and small gemstones for setting.
