I grew up in Vermont, way back when….no cell phones, no computers, chores on Saturday. Kids entertained themselves. I used to make a beeline to the forest as soon as my chores were done. I created secret places to hang out and read. I wove mats to sit on with branches and ferns. I made bowls from mud. I made an outfit from ferns and danced around the forest. (Actually, I did this in my 40s) My Mom had me sewing my own clothes before I was a teenager. I had fun growing up. Life was exhilarating and there were endless adventures. It’s the same for me now, although I skip the chores on Saturday.

In all of my years growing up, my family focused on working with their hands. A handmade gift was highly valued and to this day, my siblings and I have our homes filled with gifts/art made by our parents, siblings, friends or a wonderful artist.

My pottery is mostly functional with some occasional sculptures and wall art. I love the beauty of a handmade
object that passes from one person to another. As I create different pieces, I am most excited about the process and moving in one direction, only to take a turn in a different direction and have the piece turn out totally opposite of what I had intended. It’s always an adventure to create.

I started working with fiber many years ago but only in the last 20 years did I start to branch out from sewing my own clothes to creating clothes from my hand wovens. I am also spending a lot of time doing botanical prints on fabric, creating scarves and clothing which is right there with my love for the world of nature. My husband and I have spent years rock climbing and camping in all 4 seasons and with most adventures, I come home with my backpack filled with rocks or the car filled with branches, leaves and other treasures. All to be used, at some point, in one of my creations.
