Laura Kasowitz

Sewing Arts

Laura Kasowitz started sewing at 13 years old, after a brief sewing course in a Home Economics class, where a whole lot of enthusiasm had her diving into quilting, bagmaking, and clothes making. Excited to share her love of sewing with others, she opened Hartford Stitch, a sewing school in West Hartford, in 2015. She hoped to find enough interested students to teach one private lesson a week. Now, over 10 years later, her school welcomes over 100 students a week and offers classes in machine basics, general sewing, quilt making, garment sewing, bagmaking, fiber arts, and more.

Laura believes sewing is more than practical; it's a way to connect with ourselves, others, and those who came before us, creating a sense of community and shared tradition.
