Shawn Hansen

Wesleyan Potters Artist in Residence 2023

Shawn Hansen is an emerging ceramic artist and educator.

He hails from a small village in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York (population 305).

In 2022 he received his Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Public Health from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York. While attending Hartwick, he became interested in using clay as an advocacy tool for the unjust and outdated policy restricting gay men from donating blood in the United States.

From 2022-2023, he attended the University of Hartford in Connecticut as a post-baccalaureate student; at the same time, he started teaching introductory wheel-throwing classes.

Currently, Shawn is the artist-in-residence at Wesleyan Potters in Middletown, CT. Shawn’s work explores the connections between society, food, and gathering through the lens of his imaginary friend Charlie Reckles.
