I started doing pottery in Adult Ed at Norwich Free Academy with Adele Firshein back in the 80's.  I then followed Adele to Wesleyan Potters and continued in classes with several over talented potters until I became a member in 2001.  My pottery is very much functional, and I tend toward the earthy tones primarily.
