Janice Baker
Mixed Media
I combine my love for the creative process and my experience in Arts in Healthcare to guide others in creative expression that fosters wellbeing and connection.
I am a certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS), expressive arts facilitator and multiple media artist. I created the Arts for Healing Program at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital, New Haven, CT (2003-2022) and have developed and led creative and expressive programs for children and adults for over 20 years.
As an artist, the interplay of art, poetry and mindful experiences in nature are integral to my creative and wellness practice. My programs are often nature-inspired and offer a strengths-based approach. Mixed media techniques and materials are introduced with a focus on finding your own creative voice. Participants are invited to connect to inspiration through mindful awareness, practice compassionate self-talk and explore meaningful connections through art making. In this way, the creative process can be transformational.
Ms. Baker holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) in the Applications of the Expressive and Creative Arts from Salve Regina University, RI; a MA in Rehabilitation of the Blind from Western Michigan University; BA in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Connecticut. She is an active member of the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH), initiating the Art Refresh program for creative resilience.
