I find peace in shaping clay.
My love for clay began in childhood, spending hours playing on my sister’s kick wheel. Many years later, after our mother passed away, my sister and I took a pottery class together at Wesleyan Potters. It was something I had always wanted to do, and facing the fragility of life reminded me not to keep putting things off.
Once I got my hands back in clay as an adult, there was no turning back. I took classes for years and became a member in 2013. I genuinely enjoy being part of this community of artists and makers.
Working with clay is my stress reliever. It is both a literal and metaphorical way for me to find my center.
I create a mix of functional and nonfunctional forms, primarily through wheel throwing, though I also enjoy hand building. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with underglazes to add color and depth to my work, discovering new ways to infuse each piece with expression and personality.
